This home, delivered from the pages of a happily-ever-after storybook, offers a charmed experience. You’re invited to spend time in the manor house or carriage barn or to explore the perennial gardens, orchards, and forests, and find yourself lost in the delights of a bygone era. The dining room is the center of the house with stone porches on either end allowing for the flow of conversation and energy.
Like many older homes, the current home has been curated over time.
Sometime in the early 19th century a one story edifice sat in the center of the home. In 1880, Chancey Pease, manufacturer of Pease Piano, purchased the house and turned it into the Victorian that exists today. It was bought from his descendants by Scott Heyl, who was the president of the Preservation League of NY, and Executive Director of the Historic House Trust of NYC.
In turn, Joan and Wilmot Hastings, lawyers from Boston, turn a turn at the helm and restored much of the landscape.
The current owners have been working to restore the house and make it sustainable for future generations. They have been improving the landscapes and gardens for almost 30 years. The results of these efforts is a house that lives in an enchanted space.
The stars at night are spectacular, the quiet is almost deafening. The forest creatures live in symphony with our guests.
This is the spot for taking a step back to enjoy the interplay of the outdoors and indoors. We throw open the windows and doors and exist with the birds and the breeze. It’s the kind of experience your grandparents would have had.
We are happy to supply meals for your stay, but we also welcome you to use our cooks kitchen which is located in the middle of the home. Front and central is the Aga Cooker which makes the most divine puddings and slow cooked meals.
